Alcoa Science and Technology Announces 2003 Alcoa Corporate Technology Award Winners

    UPPER BURRELL, Pa.--April 9, 2003--Alcoa Technical Center (ATC), Alcoa's largest research, development and engineering facility, announces the recipients of Alcoa's 2003 Alcoa Corporate Technology Awards. These awards honor the company's finest scientists and engineers for creativity, teamwork, leadership and persistence in the conception, development and application of science and technology across Alcoa's global operations.
    Alcoa's deep capabilities in research, development and applied engineering are one of the key ways Alcoa delivers solutions to its customers. The awards acknowledge individual and team contributions.
    The 2003 Alcoa Corporate Technology Awards and recipients are:

-- The Francis C. Frary Award for a lifetime of outstanding individual contributions to Alcoa science and technology is awarded to Dr. G. Keith Turnbull, retired Executive Vice President, Alcoa Business System, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.
-- The Alcoa Chairman's Award for significant individual contributions to innovation, development and implementation of materials processing and systems technologies is awarded to:
-- Dr. Dhruba J. Chakrabarti, Senior Technical Specialist, Alcoa Technical Center, Alcoa Center, PA, USA; and
-- Dr. Gerald I. D. Roach, Technical Manager, Extraction Technology, Alcoa World Alumina, Kwinana, Western Australia.
-- The I.W. "Chief" Wilson Award for outstanding leadership in the management of science and technology throughout Alcoa is awarded to:
-- Mr. Robert C. Pahl, Director of Application Engineering and Process Development, Alcoa Extruded Products - Aerospace, Lafayette, IN, USA; and
-- Mr. Jerry L. Roddy, Director of Technology, Primary Metals, Knoxville, TN, USA.
-- The Arthur Vining Davis Award for outstanding team achievement in Alcoa science and technology is awarded to:
-- The Dura-Bright(R) Surface Treatment Team, Alcoa Wheel and Forged Products, Cleveland, OH, USA; and
-- The Release(TM) Non-Stick Aluminum Foil Team, Alcoa Consumer Products, Richmond, VA, USA.

    The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Pittsburgh, PA, April 10, 2003.
