Choice Logistics Announces Restructuring; Consolidating Its Two Operating Divisions to Improve Customer Focus and Yield Streamlined Operations
NEW YORK--April 9, 2003--Choice Logistics, a leading provider of fulfillment, logistics and integrated inventory management solutions, today announced a restructuring of Choice Courier Systems. Formerly operating as separate divisions, Choice Logistics and Choice Courier, will come together under the Choice Logistics name to share financial, management, and systems infrastructures. The privately held company, based in New York, will consolidate operations in a transition that should be complete by the third quarter of this year.Founded in 1964, Choice Courier has served the Northeast with courier, messenger, and facilities management solutions for 39 years. Recognized as a leader in its market, this forward-thinking company expanded its footprint in the supply-chain arena in 1994 with the creation of a logistics division. That division, Choice Logistics, has thrived since its beginning and has shown 40% year-over-year growth for the last three years. Led by its president Rob Kass, the company provides complete outsourced logistics to sophisticated companies with worldwide service parts requirements, including Cisco, EMC, Equant, and Hitachi Data Systems.
"This restructuring will provide a single, unified customer focus for our fulfillment, logistics and integrated inventory management solutions while improving operational performance," said Michael Katz, who joined Choice Courier in 1977 and will retain his position as CEO. "And with an exceptionally strong management team in place, we will be better able to serve our targeted, global markets," he added.
The restructuring includes several management changes. Rob Kass, president of the Choice Logistics division since 1998, has been promoted to president and COO of the company. Other promotions include: Gary Weiss, senior vice president of operations, Paul Malamet, vice president of client support, and John Miller, vice president of business development.
As a first step in the transition, the company also announced the sale of its New York-based On-Demand business to Airline Delivery Services, a prominent courier company serving this market since 1932.
