TEMPE, Ariz.--April 9, 2003--Simula Inc. (AMEX: SMU) announced today that it has received a follow-on order from Textron Marine and Land Systems, New Orleans, LA, for lightweight ceramic/composite applique armor kits for the U.S. Army's M1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV).The order, valued at approximately $1.1 million, exercises an option for 20 additional armor kits from a contract awarded to Simula in November of 2001. The majority of revenues are expected to be booked in 2004. This award ensures continuity of the ASV armor production line through this time period.
The ASV is a four-wheeled, light armored vehicle manufactured by Textron for use by the U.S. Army's Military Police. The vehicle was initially fielded in 1998. The external armor panels provide ballistic protection against various small-arms and fragment threats with a minimum weight penalty. Simula has manufactured armor for the initial 54 ASVs that were ordered by the Army, and this latest order will complete the armor kit purchase for the Army's current ASV contract with Textron.
