Scott Pruett Long Beach Release
PRUETT LOOKS FOR ANOTHER TRANS-AM SERIES WIN AT LONG BEACH
Long Beach, Calif. - With his season opening victory at the Grand Prix of St.
Petersburg behind him, Rocketsports Racing's Scott Pruett, driver of the No.
7 Jaguar R Performance XKR, will be driving in his first Trans-Am Series for
the BFGoodrich Tires Cup race during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
weekend on April 11-13 since 1988.
Since making his first start at Long Beach in go-karts in 1982, a race in
which he won, Pruett has enjoyed a lot of success here. The 1987 Trans-Am
Long Beach race winner has nine Champ Car World Series starts including his
Champ Car Series debut in 1989 and most recently won the 2001 Toyota
Pro-Celebrity race.
"Long Beach has played a very pivotal part for me throughout my career, from
go-karts to the Pro Celebrity races to Trans-Am to the Champ Car World Series
and now back to Trans-Am," said Pruett, who was elected into the World
Karting Hall of Fame in 1991.
"I love what has been done to the circuit with the changes they've made over
the years. Long Beach has to be one the greatest temporary circuits for the
driver and the fans watching," added Pruett, who attended his first Long
Beach when he was a teenager growing up in California.
"The last time I was at Long Beach in a Trans-Am car, I qualified first and
led every lap, except the last one," said Pruett, who ran out of gas on the
last lap, giving the victory to his good friend and current car
owner/teammate Paul Gentilozzi.
"I feel good, especially coming off the win at St. Petersburg. It had been a
long time since I'd been in a Trans-Am car," explained Pruett, who returns to
the Trans-Am Series full-time for the first time since 1994.
"Winning every race is important. I'm not going out there to impress owners
in the other series or try and move up or anything like that," explained
Pruett, who won the drivers' title in 1987 and 1994. "It's about winning
every race and taking home my third Trans-Am Series Drivers' Championship."
Pruett, who signed on with PEE Channel in 2002 to call the action in the
Champ Car World Series, will be pulling double once again this weekend like
he did in St. Petersburg, racing back and forth between the track and the TV
booth.
