FERNDALE, Mich.--April 7, 2003--Steve Shinn, a veteran chemical-industry sales executive, has been named business development manager for the refining services division of Gage Products Company in Ferndale, Mich.
Mr. Shinn previously was director of national accounts for the chemical division of Celanese Chemical, a $3.5-billion manufacturer of commodity chemicals. He joined Celanese in 1972, and went on to hold a variety of supervisory and management positions in New York City; Wilmington, Del.; Detroit; Charlotte, N.C.; Cleveland, and Dallas.
In 1986, he was named the company's mid-central regional sales manager with offices in Cleveland, and later transferred to Dallas as western regional sales manager. In 1997, he was promoted to director of national accounts.
Mr. Shinn holds master of science and bachelor of science degrees from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. A native of White Plains, N.Y., he lives with his wife, Barbara, in Fort Worth, Texas.
"Steve is a veteran of the chemical industry, with a deep understanding of customer needs in a variety of end-user industries," says Donald Dixon, president of Gage. "We expect him to energize our refining services business and help us more than triple our sales to non-automotive customers during the next 12 to 18 months."
Gage Products Company recently announced plans for a major expansion of its solvent-recovery and waste-stream management programs for the pharmaceutical, chemical and paint industries. The company's sales to pharmaceutical, chemical and paint-manufacturing markets are expected to grow from about $400,000 last year to more than $4 million in 2007. During that same five-year period, Gage also expects its total refinery business sales to jump from $2 million to $8 million.
Headquartered in Ferndale, Michigan, Gage also has operations in Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil and Mexico. The company is a leader in the field of sustainable manufacturing and solvent remanufacturing systems. Its paint-system solvent-recovery processes are used in a majority of North America's automotive assembly plants and have attracted the attention of European and Asia-Pacific manufacturers as well.
