Delphi Expands Business Globally With Toyota
SAGINAW, Mich., April 7 -- Delphi Corp. , growing globally with Toyota, today announced two new contracts for Toyota India Corolla halfshafts and Camry Australia rack and pinion steering gears for 2003 vehicle models. These products represent more than $26 million in revenue over the life of the contracts.
This new business further solidifies Delphi's strong relationship with Toyota. These contracts expand upon Delphi Corp.'s more than $477 million in previously booked business for 2002 production models for which Delphi supplies Toyota its steering columns and indirectly supplies manual rack and pinion steering gears for electric power steering.
"Toyota is a company that exemplifies quality products and business relationships," said Robert J. Remenar, president of Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems. "Our ability to continue to win new business with Toyota demonstrates Delphi's commitment to quality excellence. We are excited about this opportunity to continue to build our relationship with a globally respected vehicle manufacturer."
The halfshafts for the India Corolla expand upon longstanding halfshaft business with Toyota, dating back to NUMMI in 1984, for global Corolla applications.
Toyota is using Delphi's rack and pinion gear on their "all new" 2003 Toyota Camry Australia line of front-wheel drive vehicles. Delphi has chosen to localize the manufacture and assembly of its gears for the Camry to Somerton, Australia, in accordance with its follow-the-customer philosophy. This is the first time Delphi has manufactured steering components in Australia.
Delphi's rack and pinion steering gears provide directional control of the vehicle by controlling the position of the front wheels. The power-assist rack and pinion steering system for the Camry features low friction and quick response.
Delphi's three business sectors -- Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety, Thermal & Electrical Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communication -- provide comprehensive product solutions to complex customer needs. Delphi has approximately 192,000 employees and operates 179 wholly owned manufacturing sites, 42 joint ventures, 53 customer centers and sales offices and 32 technical centers in 41 countries.
