Kurt Johnson Slots Second on Friday in Las Vegas

Event: 4th Annual Summitracing.com Nationals
Location: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
       Las Vegas, NV
Day/Date: Friday April 4, 2003

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Racing team earned a little piece of Las Vegas racing history during Friday evening's qualifying session for the Summitracing.com Nationals. Running in the right-hand lane, K.J.'s Cavalier blasted down the quarter-mile in 6.883 seconds with a top speed of 200.74 mph, becoming the first Pro Stock race car in the four-year history of this magnificent facility to record an elapsed time in the 6.8-second range. Although a subsequent racer just edged Johnson for the provisional top spot, he remained quietly confident of improving on his current second place standing heading into the last two qualifying sessions on Saturday.

"This ACDelco Cavalier just keeps going down the racetrack. We were pretty happy to go 6.88 in that right hand lane on a run that was actually a little conservative. I think the left lane is a little better, and the conditions should be just as good in the morning, so we'll fine tune it and see if we can make it even quicker."
