Sonic Jet Performance Helps U.S. Fire Departments Obtain Federal Grants; Fire Departments Seek Federal Funds from Dept. of Homeland Security's Earmarked $750 million

STANTON, Calif.--April 2, 2003--Sonic Jet Performance, Inc (OTCBB:SJET) a manufacturer of highly advanced watercraft and land vehicles designed to protect and save lives and property, announced today that it will offer assistance to fire departments soliciting federal grants for purchase of its FRJ 1250 Fire/Rescue Jet boat.
The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has earmarked $750 million for its Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP). Under the AFGP, fire departments can submit grant requests in multiple programs. Grant applications will be accepted until April 11, 2003 and funding will be distributed from July, 2003 to September 2004. Sonic Jet's rapid response Fire and Rescue Jet boats can be requested under two programs: 1) Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety and 2) Firefighting Vehicle Acquisition.
Sonic Jet's Bill Morse said, "With approximately $50 million distributed every month, the Department of Homeland Security grants provide a great opportunity for any fire department, regardless of size, to acquire one of our vehicles. Our boats are attractive to large agencies- such as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which recently ordered two FRJ1250s for use at JFK International Airport, but we have seen smaller communities, such as Sheboygan, WI benefit from the vehicles as well." Smaller communities often rely on federal grant money to make major purchases.
Sonic Jet's FRJ 1250 is the perfect boat for shallow water rescues, pier fires, shore fires, or structure fires near the water. It is fully maneuverable, turning quickly in it's own footprint, and operates at speeds up to 55 mph. The FRJ 1250 can hold as many as six firefighters at a time and dispense up to 750 gallons of water per minute from a dedicated pump. The boat is small enough that it can be easily transported on a trailer behind an SUV. One officer can easily deploy, operate, and recover the boat.
As of March 1, 2003, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) became part of the Department of Homeland Security. The USFA, which administers the grant program, is a component of FEMA's Preparedness Division. The Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program is one of the principal ways FEMA meets its mission to help the nation prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from all emergencies, either natural or man-made. In 2002, FEMA distributed more than $334 million through 5,316 grants to help America's firefighters become better prepared, trained and equipped to effectively respond to fires and other.
Morse continued, "We are actively working with our representative channels to help agencies complete the grant requests by the April 11th deadline. An essential element of the grant process is the narrative section of the grant proposal, the language for which something we can provide easily in reference to our boats."
