UAW Detroit CAP Endorses Gil Hill for City Council
DETROIT, April 1 -- The UAW Detroit Community Action Program (CAP) today announced its endorsement of Gil Hill in the Detroit City Council special election on April 28, 2003.
"Gil Hill's leadership experience, his ability to work with people from all parts of the Detroit community and his commitment to Detroit's working families, children and seniors make him the clear choice in the City Council special election," said UAW Vice President Nate Gooden, who chairs UAW Detroit CAP.
Hill served 12 years on the Detroit City Council, including four years as Council President. Among Hill's initiatives as a member of the City Council were: the Automotive Jobs Task Force, the Commercial Strip Revitalization Project, the Dangerous Building Accelerated Demolition Program and the Fare Reduction and Elimination Initiative (FREI), which uses a portion of casino fees to provide senior citizens free rides on city buses and reduced fares for students.
"Gil Hill will be a unifying force on the City Council and a strong supporter of Mayor Kilpatrick's efforts to bring jobs to Detroit and revitalize the city's downtown and neighborhoods," Gooden said. "We look forward to working with Gil in this campaign, and we urge all Detroit voters to get out and vote on April 28."
