Delphi Secures New Steering Column Business With Ford Motor Company

SAGINAW, Mich., March 31 -- Delphi Corp. strengthens its position as a leader in the global steering column market by winning a new business contract with Ford Motor Company, supplying steering columns for the 2004 Ford F-150 truck series. The Ford F-series has been America's best-selling vehicle for two decades. Two new vehicle models, the Lariat and FX4, will be added to the XL, STX and XLT in 2004. Each will have a distinct image, setting a new standard in refinement.

This new business is Delphi's first steering column application with Ford. "We are proud to be entrusted with Ford Motor Company's largest truck application," said Robert J. Remenar, president of Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems. "Expanding our customer base reinforces Delphi's competitiveness in steering components."

These columns will feature energy absorbing occupant protection technology, in which Delphi leads the industry. In fact, more of the vehicles assessed as "Best Picks" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2002 use Delphi Energy Absorbing Steering Columns than any other steering column manufacturer.

"Delphi's expertise in occupant protection and electrical subsystems integration plays a key role in our ability to meet our customers' steering column requirements," stated Remenar. "This knowledge, coupled with more than nine decades of experience and leading edge column technology positions Delphi with a strong competitive advantage in the marketplace. As occupant protection regulations increase globally, Delphi is positioned to meet the market's needs."

The first to introduce tilt-wheel steering column technology in 1962, and energy absorbing technology in 1967, Delphi is an industry leader in the steering column global market producing steering columns in 10 worldwide manufacturing facilities. Delphi offers a complete column portfolio including standard, tilt, rake, telescope, rake and telescope, and tilt and telescope steering columns, available in manual or power applications.

In recent years, Delphi has earned several other contracts with Ford to provide energy & engine management products, transmission products, instrument clusters, electronics, electrical/electronic distribution systems, thermal products and sensors from 18 manufacturing facilities in Australia, Europe, Japan, North America and South America.
