Army Experts Available to Comment on Detroit's Army Involvement in Iraq
TACOM and the NAC have had a number of inquiries regarding what role the Army's Tank Automotive and Armaments Command and the National Automotive Center are playing in the Iraq war.
The most visible are the Abrams M1A1 tanks of the Third Infantry Division which were designed and built under TACOM's direction. While these are getting the job done, they are focused on analog systems while the new Abrams M1A2 tanks headed for Iraq with the Fourth Infantry Division are equipped with the latest digital systems integration. The project managers at TACOM are available to help you understand these vehicles and we have a great current news video from Channel 4 available for your background update.
As you know, fuel is a critical factor for our success on the Iraq battlefield, and we estimate the Third Infantry is using about 1,000,000 gallons of fuel daily to keep rolling.
That's a main reason for the increase intensity and efforts of the National Automotive Center under Dennis Wend to work with the auto industry on a new generation of vehicles which at the moment include diesel hybrids, diesel electrics, hydraulics and fuel cell powered units. Dennis is also available to update you on the latest technology developments.
For your Washington editors, please note that the auto industry will showcase their latest fuel cell technology vehicles, April 21, at the Pentagon. Participants will include: DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, John Deere and Quantum Technologies and your editors are welcomed to attend.
