Tarmac Ready Mix to Install Trimble Telvisant Fleet Management Solution

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 27 -- Trimble announced today that Tarmac, one of the largest ready mix concrete producers in Florida, will outfit 350 trucks with the Trimble Telvisant(TM) Fleet Management System to improve fleet utilization. Financial terms were not disclosed.

After conducting a pilot evaluation and realizing a significant increase in productivity in just two months, Tarmac is installing the Trimble Telvisant system to monitor and manage its fleet of ready mix trucks. The system, which utilizes General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) wireless service, integrates with Systech's Advantage Series(TM) Dispatch Software to enable automatic vehicle status information. In the past, Tarmac used a manual status system requiring driver input to signal job status to dispatchers. The intent of the new system is to increase fleet productivity and customer satisfaction by automatically sending job status directly to the dispatch system without driver intervention.

The Trimble Telvisant System

Telvisant is a complete solution that includes hardware, wireless connectivity, software and service. The automated system allows fleet managers to use real-time vehicle location and status to improve dispatch decision making. In addition, Telvisant is compatible with most dispatch and enterprise software products used by concrete producers.

To be efficient, ready mix concrete dispatchers must constantly check incoming customer orders against concrete production and delivery capacities. Historically, truck drivers have used radio, cell phones, or text messaging to send information to dispatchers. The problem: drivers must provide status updates manually, and do it consistently. Often the dispatcher receives incomplete or inaccurate information from the field.

The Trimble Telvisant system solves this problem by using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and other sensors to automate the delivery cycle. Dispatchers no longer need to depend on drivers for timely status information. Instead, they receive automated information via the Internet including: truck status when loading at the plant, leaving the plant, arriving at the job, adding water to the concrete, starting/ending the concrete pour, washing the trucks, leaving the job, and arriving at the plant to complete the delivery cycle. Trimble's Telvisant system automates the entire process.
