Next Generation Instrumentation System from AMETEK Dixson Chosen for Freightliner Century Class Trucks

PAOLI, Pa.--March 24, 2003--Freightliner LLC, a DaimlerChrylser Company, has chosen the Next Generation Instrumentation (NGI(TM))-based system from AMETEK Dixson for the dashboard instrumentation on its 2004 Century Class ST trucks--Freightliner's most advanced technology vehicle.
The NGI-based system is an integral part of the Freightliner truck's on-board information system and includes a sophisticated Driver Message Center to assist the driver in monitoring fuel economy, fluid levels and many other on-board systems.
"Freightliner's selection of our NGI-based system for their Century Class trucks strengthens AMETEK's position as a leading supplier of dashboard instruments to the North American heavy-truck industry and reflects our effort to incorporate the latest digital technology and manufacturing techniques into our product line," notes AMETEK Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frank S. Hermance.
The NGI-based system provides a reliable, expandable and cost-effective alternative to analog gauges currently found on heavy trucks, agricultural /construction equipment and other vehicles. The highly modular system can accommodate as many as 24 modules and lends itself to both new and retrofit dashboard panels.
The NGI dashboard typically includes a speedometer; tachometer; air-pressure gauges, water- and oil-temperature gauges; fuel-level, voltmeter; light bar; and an externally mounted data collector for additional pressure/vacuum and switch/sensor inputs.
AMETEK Dixson is a division of AMETEK Inc.'s Electronic Instrument Group and a leading U.S. manufacturer of custom dashboard instruments and displays for heavy trucks and other vehicles. AMETEK, Inc. , is a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors with annual sales of more than $1 billion.
