Diaz Wins Pole at Monterrey

LUIS DIAZ THRILLS MEXICAN FANS WITH SECOND CONSECUTIVE
TECATE/TELMEX MONTERREY GRAND PRIX POLE POSITION

MONTERREY, Mexico (March 22, 2003) - For the second consecutive
year, Dorricott driver Luis Diaz, of Mexico City, has placed the No. 33
Telmex/Dorricott Racing Toyota/Swift on the pole when the green flag falls
on the 2003 CART Toyota Atlantic Championship season Sunday morning for the
Tecate/Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix.

In a thrilling battle with rookie driver A.J. Allmendinger in
which the two drivers traded fast laps, Diaz laid down a record setting lap
of 1:24.960 (89.153 mph) with two minutes remaining in final qualifying to
take the pole position in front of thousands of his adoring countrymen.
Allmendinger will start third after posting the second-quickest qualifying
time of 1:25.114 (88.991 mph).

"I had a very good car today and I'm very proud of the team," said
a joyful Diaz. "I think if we make a few of the right changes in the car,
we can be up stay up front during the race. Tomorrow is going to be a very
tough race because I think Allmendinger are Hands are tough competitors.
There are also a lot of other drivers who haven't been in this championship
before but their talent level is clear."

It was Diaz's third career Toyota Atlantic pole position, and his
first since starting from the pole at Road America in 2002 - a race he
would go on to win. Diaz finished fifth in last year's race after leading
the first five laps under rainy conditions before giving way to his
Dorricott Racing teammate, Jon Fogarty, who went on to claim his first of
two 2002 victories en route to the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship title.

The top nine cars on the starting grid were within one second of
each other, and the top 11 in the field were within two seconds of Diaz.
The entire 40-minute final qualifying session ran without a red flag. There
were only three minor incidents during the session that were handled with
local yellow flags.

Sunday's CART Toyota Atlantic Championship schedule calls for a
15-minute
warm-up session beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CT). The green flag drops on the
Tecate/Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix and the 2003 CART Toyota Atlantic
Championship season at 10:30 a.m. (CT).

The scheduled distance for the race is 32 laps, but is subject to a
50-minute time limit. The race is being broadcast live on SPEED Channel in
the United States and Canada at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time, and live timing
and scoring data will also be available on the official web site of the
CART Toyota Atlantic Championship, www.toyotaatlantic.com.
