Ron Fellows Karting Championship helps charity

Charity race kicks off 2003 season
Frank Launi, Alex Penfold and James Hinchcliffe race for a cause

BRAMPTON, ON  Three top drivers from the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting 
Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels got their season off to an 
early start as they took part in the BARC (British Auto Racing Club) 
charity race for Huntington's Disease at Formula Kartways in Brampton on 
March 22.

The team raised $1000 for the charity with the help of Sunoco, Ron Fellows 
and ASN Canada FIA  and it was Fellows who helped hand pick the team.
"To be picked is a definite honour," James Hinchcliffe, a SRFKC Formula 
Junior driver. "We had a pretty good run, and even though we were second, 
the main thing was help a good cause and represent Sunoco and Ron Fellows 
well."

Alex Penfold, who is one of the top Formula Senior drivers, was also happy 
to be part of the Huntington's race. "It was fun, but tough. We were right 
at the front all race."
Showing a good team spirit, Myke Penfold, Alex's father filled in on Team 
Shortt, who was a driver 'short' of a full team. Late in the race, son 
passed father - without contact - in what was an incident free race.

The final member of the team, Hot Wheels FV1200 and Formula Senior driver 
Frank Launi echoed his teammates comments on being picked for the team.
"I was scheduled to race in Charlotte last weekend and then go straight to 
Florida for the SKUSA opener. When I heard Fellows picked me for the team, 
there was no way I was going to miss this after all he and Sunoco have done 
for us here in Ontario karting." Launi said before the event.

The winner of the race was the Huntington's Disease charity, who are well 
on their way to achieving their goal of $25,000 raised for the weekend.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for 
kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct 
and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the 
safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the 
racing ladder to automobile racing.

At the end of the season, two drivers will be selected from each of the 
four classes plus the two drivers from the ASN Canadian National 
Championships will be invited to a one-day evaluation test at the 
Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy at Mosport, provided they are 16 years 
of age prior to the date of the test.
Out of those 10 drivers, two will earn a full scholarship to the 2004 
Bridgestone/Firestone Toronto Star Wheels F2000 racing series.
