FIGGE THIRD IN PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING AT MONTERREY

MONTERREY, MEXICO (March 21, 2003) –Alex Figge, of Santa Barbara, Calif.,
today qualified third in provisional qualifying for Round One of the 2003
CART Toyota Atlantic Championship at Fundidora Park.

In sunny and breezy conditions, Figge took to the 2.104-mile road course for
the first of two 30-minute qualifying sessions. Showing the pace he had
demonstrated in pre-season testing, Figge immediately began posting fast
laps. As the session progressed and more grip became available, Figge moved
into fourth position. Following a brief stop at the halfway point of the
session, to make minor changes, Figge found a good gap to post a fast lap.

0.14a, Figge immediately jumped to the top of the speed charts, with a lap
of 1:27.003 (87.059 mph). Within a lap, Figge had fallen to second, though
comfortably ahead of his pursuers. At the checkered flag, Joey Hand posted a
new lap record, bumping Figge to third place, significantly bettering his
11th place starting position at Monterrey last year and setting a new career
best mark for qualifying on a road course.

"All in all I'm really pleased with qualifying," said Figge. "We're a new
team and things have been hectic, but the team has given me a well prepared
car. I was able to post a good time early, but late in the session I found
it difficult to turn a quick lap. Obviously I think the track will be
quicker tomorrow and I look forward to fighting for the pole."

The second 30-minute qualifying session for Round One of the 2003 CART
Toyota Atlantic Championship season gets underway, Friday, March 21, at
12:50 p.m. (local time).
