Speedway Motorsports Announces UAW-DaimlerChrysler Extends Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sponsorship Agreement

CONCORD, N.C.--March 19, 2003--Officials of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. today announced the annual NASCAR Winston Cup event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will continue to be sponsored by UAW-DaimlerChrysler and will continue to be known as the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400.
"We've been very fortunate to find what we believe to be the best title sponsor in all of NASCAR Winston Cup racing," said Chris Powell, LVMS general manager. "This event has become one of the most popular on the Winston Cup circuit, and our friends with the United Auto Workers, DaimlerChrysler Corporation and the National Training Center share a great deal of responsibility for that success."
UAW-DaimlerChrysler joined with Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup event. Since that time, record crowds have flocked to LVMS each year, and just recently, the speedway announced 15,000 seats will be added prior to the 2004 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400.
UAW, which has 1,086 local unions nationally ranging in size from fewer than 100 members to locals with more than 15,000 members, has been an event sponsor at Charlotte's Lowe's Motor Speedway since 1995.
"UAW-DaimlerChrysler is proud to announce that we've extended our relationship with the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and NASCAR," said Nate Gooden, vice president and director of the UAW- DaimlerChrysler Department, and co-chairman of the Joint Activities Board. "The UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 continues to grow in popularity each year and has become one of the tougher events to secure tickets for. It's an exciting weekend for all the race fans, and we are thrilled to be a part of it."
DaimlerChrysler returned to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in 2001 with its Dodge Intrepid. It has enjoyed tremendous success in many forms of motorsports including the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, American Le Mans Series and World of Outlaws.
"DaimlerChrysler is glad to have this opportunity to renew its sponsorship of the NASCAR Winston Cup race in Las Vegas," said John Franciosi, senior vice president of Employee Relations for DaimlerChrysler and co-chairman of the Joint Activities Board. "The UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 has been a great success over the last three years, and we're happy to continue it."
Matt Kenseth won this year's UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on March 2 in front of a record 140,000 fans.
