Auto Club Offers 5 Percent Gas Rebate

LOS ANGELES--March 19, 2003--The Automobile Club of Southern California is working to help families counteract the effects of record high gas prices by offering a 5 percent rebate on gasoline and diesel fuel purchases made with the AAA Visa(R) credit card at the pump.
"With the future of gas prices uncertain, we recognize this can be a valuable way to help families save on this necessary expense," said Michael Johnson, vice president of marketing and product management.
Beginning immediately, all Auto Club credit card holders will receive a 5 percent rebate when they use their AAA credit card issued by MBNA America Bank to purchase fuel at any automated fuel pump worldwide.
Rebates will appear as a credit on the cardholder's monthly statement. Users must purchase the gas or diesel by swiping the AAA credit card at the pump. The daily rebate limit is $60 in gas charges which is about a $3 rebate.
In California, gas prices are averaging $2.17 per gallon for regular unleaded, up 31 cents from last month. At that price the 5 percent rebate would save members nearly 11 cents on every gallon of gasoline purchased.
"For many families, finding savings where they can is of paramount importance these days," added Johnson. "We're continually looking to provide members with savings and benefits they can use every day. This program has been in development for more than a year and we're glad that it is being introduced now."
