Kenworth Selects Rugged Delphi Radios For Heavy-Duty Vehicles

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 17 -- Several of Delphi Corp.'s audio systems have been selected by Kenworth Truck Company for use in their 2003 models. These rugged radios are specifically designed for the harsh environment of the heavy-duty truck market and meet the SAE J1455 quality standard, which also applies to off-road and agriculture markets.

"Kenworth is recognized for their premium quality in the heavy- and medium-duty truck market," said Jeff Owens, president of Delphi Delco Electronics Systems. "Delphi understands that truck drivers rely on their radios for entertainment and information and we are pleased that Kenworth has selected our systems."

Features of Delphi's audio systems for commercial vehicles include AM/FM radio with cassette and CD playback along with an alarm clock available on up-level models. Other options include a six-disc CD-changer, infrared remote controller and compatibility with eight- and two-channel amplifiers. The heavy-duty receivers include a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) seven-channel weather band and LED (light emitting diode) backlighting for longer display life.

In addition, the cassette and CD audio systems can be configured to receive either XM or Sirius satellite audio services. Delphi was one of the first, and is today one of few suppliers to offer commercial vehicle audio systems that are inter-operable with either service provider.

Delphi is a dominant supplier for the heavy-duty market and provides audio systems to nine other major on-highway, off-highway and agriculture vehicles. For class 6, 7 and 8 trucks, Delphi supplies audio systems for nearly 50 percent of the market.

Delphi Delco Electronics Systems was the first manufacturer to integrate a radio into an instrument panel of a vehicle back in 1936. With more than 67 years of mobile entertainment systems experience, Delphi is established as the premier company for unparalleled expertise in acoustic design to help achieve optimum sound quality in a vehicle.
