Warren Johnson places 8th on Friday in Gainesville
Gainesville, Fla., March 14, 2003 - Warren Johnson had a solid outing during the first day of qualifying for the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., with his best pass of 6.829 seconds, 202.52 mph slotting the GM Performance Parts eighth among the 45 entries in the Pro Stock category. Even so, WJ was looking for more heading into Saturday's final two sessions.
"We just didn't get off the starting line as smoothly as we'd like today. We're not having tire shake or anything like that, but our sixty-foot times are not where we want them to be. It's a combination of not adapting to the starting line and being slightly off on our tune-up. We did have a different motor in the car today, which we will change for tomorrow.
"We know the track will be going away, so maybe it will come to us. The GM Performance Parts team will just have to keep our finger on its pulse and see what happens.
