President and CEO of Motor Parts Federal Credit Union Announces Retirement

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 14 -- After 32 years of service, Don Major, president and chief executive officer of Motor Parts Federal Credit Union (MPFCU), announced today that he is retiring April 11, 2003. Heidi Kassab, currently executive vice president, will succeed Major.

"I'm glad that I had the opportunity to be instrumental in growing Motor Parts Federal Credit Union into one of the area's leading credit unions," Major said. "I'm confident that the credit union is in capable hands and that the employees will continue exceeding our members' expectations."

During Major's career, MPFCU was named the fastest growing credit union in the metro-Detroit area by Crain's Detroit Business four times between 1995 and 2002. In 2002, Crain's ranked MPFCU as the area's 22nd largest credit union.

Named to his current position in 1984, Major, 59, had managed the day-to- day operations of the Auburn Hills, Mich.-based credit union, including the Center Line, Mich., Detroit, and Perrysburg, Ohio branches and its nearly 50 employees.

From 1971 to 1984, he was assistant manager of the Center Line branch where he oversaw the loan and collection department and supported the manager with the daily operations.

In addition to his responsibilities at MPFCU, Major taught Volunteer Achievement Program courses for the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL), served as the league alternate director and chairman of the MCUL technology committee. He was also vice chairman of the Northeast chapter of the MCUL and director of the Chrysler Council of Credit Unions.

Major earned an associate's degree from Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich. A native of Windsor, Ontario, he currently resides in Macomb, Mich.

Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich., MPFCU is a member-owned, not-for- profit organization that was founded in 1951 by employees from Chrysler Corp.'s Center Line, Mich. parts division. MPFCU has branches in Auburn Hills, Center Line and Detroit, Mich., and Perrysburg, Ohio.
