Teradyne Wins Competitive Microcontroller Design-In at Haier; One of the Biggest Home Appliance Manufacturers in the World

SHANGHAI, China--March 12, 2003--Teradyne, Inc. announced that the Haier IC Company of Shanghai, a division of the Haier Group, one of the world's biggest home appliance manufacturers, selected Teradyne to assist in the design verification of a microcontroller for use in numerous home appliances such as refrigerators, washers, air-conditioning units, and dish washers. In a competitive design-in, Haier selected Teradyne based on the test economics and test capability of the Integra J750 test system. Teradyne's J750 delivers the lowest test cost for microcontrollers in high-volume production while meeting digital and converter test requirements. The selection was also based on Teradyne's strong applications and customer support infrastructure in China.
"We were impressed by Teradyne's local engineering resources," said Jian-Guo Zhu, Vice General Manager, Haier IC Company. "Haier turned to Teradyne for assistance in the design verification of one of our microcontrollers, and within weeks, we advanced the device design and collected vital data for use in our future designs. This type of strong application support makes us confident that we selected a valuable partner when we chose Teradyne."
"Cost of test is critical to high volume manufacturers like Haier," commented Hock Chiang, Managing Director, Teradyne Semiconductor Test Operations in China. "Teradyne's J750 is designed to provide the full spectrum of test coverage and parallel test capability that high-volume manufacturers need, while delivering the best test economics. We look forward to supporting the implementation of the new microcontroller and the range of products that will benefit from this new device."
