Rudy A. Schlais, Jr. Joins Board of Superior Industries
VAN NUYS, Calif.--March 7, 2003--Superior Industries International, Inc. announced today that Rudolph (Rudy) A. Schlais, Jr. has been elected to its Board of Directors. Schlais becomes the ninth Director and the sixth outside member of the Company's Board.Schlais was Group Vice President of General Motors Corporation and President and CEO of General Motors Asia Pacific from June 1998 until his retirement on May 2, 2002. In this position he was instrumental in planning GM's entry into China; restoring sales and product leadership in Australia; launching GM's new vehicle assembly plant in Thailand; creating a new distribution channel, GM Auto World, in Japan and other Asia-Pacific countries; acquiring certain global assets of Daewoo Motor Car Company, which facilitated entry into the Korean market; and implementing strategic alliances with Isuzu, Suzuki and Fuji Heavy Industries. Earlier Schlais was President of GM China Operations.

Schlais was a member of the GM Automotive Strategy Board and chaired the GM Asia Pacific Strategy Board. He was the first Chairman of the Board of the Shanghai GM Corporation, Ltd., and served until his retirement in 2002. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Isuzu and Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru). Schlais began his GM career in 1960, and held a variety of staff, operating and general management positions.
Schlais currently is Chairman of Information Technology United Corporation, a provider of information technology solutions with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Hong Kong, Toronto and San Francisco.
