Delphi Engineer Wins SAE Award for Young Engineers

TROY, Mich., March 5 -- One of Delphi Corp.'s brightest engineers, Chantal S. Parenteau, Ph.D., won the Society of Automotive Engineers / InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award for Young Engineers for her work in helping to improve safety in automobiles.

"SAE created this award to encourage more participation in the standards and regulations area of engineering among young engineers. And we are very pleased to see Chantal recognized for her outstanding work and contributions to the industry so early in her career," said James A. Maniscalco, general director of Engineering at Delphi Safety & Interior Systems.

The recognition consists of an honorarium and an engraved award. Parenteau is a staff biomechanical engineer at Delphi Safety & Interior Systems, a division of Delphi Corp. Since Parenteau joined Delphi in 1998, she has led and supported various advanced occupant protection systems projects. Parenteau's main focus is analyzing field data accidents and conducting biomechanical research that results in the selection of key occupant safety technologies.

Parenteau has authored or collaborated on more than 25 scientific papers and nine technical presentations.

In 2000, Parenteau became the co-organizer for the Biomechanics Session at the SAE Congress. She was the recipient of the David Foust Memorial Fund, administered by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) and of the Vagverkets Jubileums Fund, administered by the Swedish National Road Administration.

Parenteau graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in BioEngineering. She also earned a Master of Science in BioEngineering from the same university. Parenteau was also part of the Mathematics and Engineering Honor Societies. In 1996 she earned her doctoral degree from Chalmers University in Sweden.

"The Engineering team at Delphi Safety & Interior Systems is very proud of Chantal for receiving this award. We wish her a long, successful and rewarding career," Maniscalco said.
