Ford and the PGA TOUR Hit the 'Driving' Range at Homestead Speedway

MIAMI, March 4 -- This year's Ford Championship at Doral includes more than championship golf. Today, golf superstars from the PGA TOUR will leave the fairways of Doral's Blue Monster and join some of NASCAR's biggest stars at Miami's Homestead Speedway for the "Ford Driving Adventure."

The driving event gives the PGA pros an opportunity to take the wheel of a tandem NASCAR racecar with Ford Racing drivers in an afternoon of competitive auto racing.

Winston Cup and Ford Racing drivers, including Dale Jarrett, Elliott Sadler and Matt Kenseth, will take the track alongside several noteworthy PGA TOUR professionals.

"We want to ensure the Ford Championship at Doral is one of the most desirable destinations for the world's elite golfers for years to come," said Steve Lyons, Ford Division president. "Ford's partnership with NASCAR and Homestead gives Doral golfers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to test their driving ability on the race course and the golf course."

The Ford Driving Adventure at Homestead will begin as PGA golfers finish their practice rounds at Doral and are transported via helicopter to Homestead Speedway for an afternoon of racing.

The golfers will be given professional driving instructions and complete timed laps as part of the Jarrett/Favre Driving Adventure School before being raced around the track by Ford Racing drivers in race-ready NASCAR vehicles. The friendly on-track competition will culminate with an awards ceremony and reception with a trophy being given to the PGA player with the fastest time.

"As a contrast to our intense NASCAR circuit, this event really gives the Ford drivers a great chance to loosen up and have some fun with the PGA players," said Dale Jarrett, winner of the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship and one of only three Ford drivers to win the series championship since 1969. "I'm looking forward to teaching these PGA guys what 'driving' is really all about."

Ford is in its inaugural year as the title sponsor of the Ford Championship at Doral, held on the famed Blue Monster golf course at the Doral Resort & Spa in Miami. The tournament was first held in 1962 and is the third oldest, continuous event on the PGA TOUR. It traditionally kicks off the PGA TOUR's four-week Florida Swing in March, which leads up to the Masters. The Ford Championship at Doral marks Ford's first sponsorship involvement on the PGA TOUR.
