Beach Solutions Announces Collaboration with Cadence on New Technology for System-on-Chip Design and IP Reuse
DATE, Munich--March 4, 2003--Beach Solutions today announced it is collaborating with Cadence Design Systems, Inc. to enable System-on-Chip (SoC) design and IP management interoperability, utilizing the Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) and new schema technology. The intention is to help accelerate time to market and improve the return on investment for customers developing embedded processor designs and peripheral blocks. Beach and Cadence are already working with strategic customers and other parties on an advanced schema definition with a formal release expected in the second half of the year.
The schema technology, based on the widely accepted XML database format, describes parameters and their associations of common design and verification data required by the various engineering disciplines involved in IP and SoC projects. Companies establishing platform-based designs also can benefit from the data consistency, tool interoperability, and IP re-use the schema provides.
During the last four years, Beach has created a schema and associated tools that allow IP blocks to be developed and maintained independently from any particular target SoC implementation. Through this technology, now in its third generation, Beach supplies a family of products called EASI-Tools(TM) that capture and check the interface specification of any IP block, and generate views of the interfaces needed by engineers developing SoCs. This includes product documentation, C interface code, IP integration tests and bus interfaces.
Beach Solutions' President and CEO Terry McCloskey notes: "Engineers working on embedded design projects need information in a format specific to their design tasks. Hardware engineers work in RTL, software engineers in 'C', and verification engineers in other forms; all need extensive documentation. Through our work with leading IP providers and system integrators in the industry, we have pioneered the fundamental principle of separating system interface data from its presentation, and storing common data in one place. We then provide generators that operate on this common data to produce consistent and maintainable views in the styles and languages engineers require. We are very excited about working with leading EDA suppliers like Cadence to integrate our technology into standard tool flows which is leading the charge in verification speed and efficiency with its new Incisive(TM) verification platform."
Rahul Razdan, Corporate Vice President and General Manager at Cadence commented, "Given the complexity of today's SoC verification task, there is a compelling need for a fundamentally different approach for creating, maintaining and reusing IP. With Beach Solutions' proven expertise in schema technology and the expanding system and verification offering from Cadence, our efforts are targeted to yield large productivity gains. Our research to date indicates that Beach's schema approach can fit synergistically with how IP blocks are organized and verified within the Cadence Incisive verification platform."
