Delphi Division Books More Than $305 Million In Common Rail and Sensor Business in Asia Pacific

Delphi sees strong sales in AP region in month of January

TROY, Mich., Feb. 28 -- Delphi Corporation's Energy & Chassis Systems division announced today that, in January, it booked business in the Asia Pacific region totaling more than $305 million to supply diesel common rail systems and sensor components.

"We are pleased at the growth we are seeing with respect to the Asia Pacific region and are looking to continue the positive momentum," said Guy C. Hachey, vice president, Delphi Corporation and president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. "Our Asia Pacific customers are seeing the breadth and depth of our product portfolio and are looking to Delphi to assist in meeting their unique requirements, as tighter emissions and fuel efficiency regulations continue to evolve in the region."

Delphi's Diesel Common Rail (DCR) System

Delphi's Multec(TM) 1600 DCR system has been designed to meet future stringent emissions requirements around the globe, as well as provide solutions to increasing demands for improvements in fuel economy. The modular systems can also be adapted for different engines. The technology used in Delphi's Multec(TM) 1600 common rail system is based on solenoid injectors with balanced valve and feedback control strategies.

Delphi has achieved great success in the diesel injection systems market since the launch of its diesel common rail in 2000. Delphi has manufactured more than one million diesel common rail systems to date, with booked business predicted to exceed more than 2.5 million systems per year by 2006.

Delphi's INTELLEK(TM) Sensors

Delphi's sensor technology can be applied to multiple vehicle systems to increase customer value. These sensors assist in the optimization of engine performance, ride and handling, and comfort and convenience. Select sensors related to Delphi's new Asia Pacific business include:

* Oxygen Sensor - monitors exhaust gases exiting the engine. Located between the engine and catalytic converter, the oxygen sensor provides data to the engine's computer regarding the oxygen content of the exhaust. With this data, the engine can adjust air/fuel ratio resulting in the lowest possible emissions leaving the vehicle. This is important in regions where strict emissions or fuel efficiency requirements are in place.

* Speed and Position Sensors - A family of digital sensors employed to maximize the performance of multiple vehicle systems. The Asia Pacific applications include engine sensors (cam, crank and knock). Delphi also manufactures transmission sensors and sensors for anti-lock braking systems (wheel speed, traction control and vehicle stability). Because they are already suited for demanding applications, Delphi's sensors can also be utilized in a host of non-automotive applications.

Asia Pacific presence

Delphi continues to forecast solid growth in the Asia Pacific region in 2003. In 2002, Delphi had regional consolidated sales of $1.2 billion in the Asia Pacific region. Delphi has more than 5,000 employees in 13 facilities and 4 technical centers, in 10 countries and is also involved in 18 joint ventures throughout the region. Delphi supports almost all major Asian OEMs as well as American and European OEMs present in the region.
