Delphi Division Books More Than $117 Million in Fuel Handling Business In January
TROY, Mich., Feb. 27 -- Delphi Corporation's Energy & Chassis Systems division announced today that, in January, it booked business worth more than $117 million to supply fuel pumps and fuel sender assemblies to several OEMs and suppliers in North America.
"We have an extensive portfolio of fuel handling, emissions and engine management components that assist in significantly improving fuel economy and reducing vehicle emissions," said Guy C. Hachey, vice president, Delphi Corporation and president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. "Delphi's customers worldwide are demanding engine management technologies that help them meet increasingly stringent fuel economy and emissions requirements. Our portfolio helps our customers face these global challenges."
The fuel pump and fuel sender assembly is part of the fuel delivery and engine management system. An integral electrical pump removes the majority of the fuel from the tank and delivers pressurized fuel to the engine. A return tube transfers unused fuel vapors to the evaporative emissions canister. To accurately measure the level of fuel in the tank, a float and resistor assembly sends an electrical signal to the fuel gauge.
Delphi's integrated fuel pump assembly and sender system monitors fuel flow, fuel level indication and tank vent control, allowing for a single hole in the tank for fuel pickup, sender and vent features. The system is designed to meet unique vehicle specifications and can be supplied as a separate component or as part of a total engine management system.
"We're pleased at the increasing interest in our fuel handling, emissions and engine management products," said F. Timothy Richards, executive director, business lines, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. "Our success with these products so far in 2003 validates our ability to meet our customers' ever- changing needs."
Fuel Handling & Evaporative Emissions Portfolio
Delphi supplies all the components needed for on-board refueling vapor recovery (ORVR) applications. The product portfolio includes integrated fuel handling assemblies, fuel pump modules, canisters, the on-board diagnostic (OBD) II subsystem, the ORVR subsystem, and air separators, to name a few. Delphi designs systems to meet increasingly stringent worldwide emissions regulations.
