Delphi Names Managing Director of Medical Systems Appointment Represents Commitment to Medical Market Growth

TROY, Mich., Feb. 26 -- Delphi Corp. announced today the appointment of Philip M. Vorwald as the company's first managing director of Delphi Medical Systems, which represents Delphi's focus on pursuing technology applications within the medical device industry.

Vorwald, 45, joins the Mergers, Acquisitions and New Markets executive staff, and will oversee all Delphi medical systems activities including sales, marketing, business development, strategic planning and identifying emerging market growth opportunities. Working within the mergers and acquisitions group will enable Delphi to closely integrate acquisition activities in support of the medical systems growth initiatives. The position became effective on Monday, Feb. 24, and reports to Atul Pasricha, vice president of Mergers, Acquisitions and New Markets.

"Philip's vast experience with biomedical sciences, as well as his global business expertise, will help focus and expand Delphi's presence in the medical device market," Pasricha said. "With this appointment, Delphi Medical Systems now has an excellent leader in place to endeavor to build solid customer relationships within the medical device/biosciences field."

With nearly 20 years of experience in the medical device/bioscience industry, Vorwald was previously vice president of Asia Pacific/Latin American business operations for Becton Dickinson Biosciences, headquartered in San Jose, Calif. During his career with Becton Dickinson, he served in a variety of positions including vice president of European business operations, general manager of Europe, director of business development and marketing manager of clinical systems.

Delphi will aggressively pursue new business opportunities in the medical devices market, leveraging our core capabilities in manufacturing, technology development and systems integration to generate significant shareholder value. In doing so, Delphi Medical Systems intends to be a key supplier to the medical industry, as well as provide contract manufacturing to add value to current and future systems. Delphi will also create alliances with medical research companies and universities to co-develop medical devices.

Current examples of medical device components that can use applicable Delphi products include: LCD sensors for oximeters; electrodes, wiring and integrated circuits for neurological monitors (EEG); and pumps and switches for hemodialysis. Delphi's products that have medical application include: sensors, connectors, switches, wiring and flexible circuits, plus many more.

The Mergers, Acquisitions and New Markets group was formed in March 2002, when the new markets group was joined with existing mergers and acquisitions activities. The group is responsible for Delphi Medical Systems and has additional responsibility for Delphi's technology commercialization and licensing activities.

Vorwald received a Master of Science degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Va., in 1983, and a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from Catholic University, in Washington, D.C., in 1979.
