AMI-C Publishing Auto Interface Specifications
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Feb. 25 -- Auto manufacturers will soon have the capability to introduce a wide range of new mobile information and entertainment possibilities to their vehicle lines as the Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration (AMI-C) makes its Release 2 specifications and supporting documents publicly available.
"The Release 2 specifications represent a set of foundational elements that will enable automakers and suppliers to design mobile information and entertainment systems to deliver innovative services to customers in the vehicle," said AMI-C President Dave Acton. "With the completion of Release 2, AMI-C members are focusing on projects to move them into production."
The AMI-C specifications define a common architecture and standardized interfaces, making it possible for all vehicle manufacturers to take advantage of emerging multimedia products and services more quickly by eliminating the expense and limitations of proprietary systems. Automakers will be able to incorporate the latest electronics. The expanded marketplace that ensues will enable the final consumer to customize his/her vehicle by choosing from among a wide variety of interoperable multimedia devices (i.e. DVD players, navigation systems, hands-free phones, etc.).
The following documents can be downloaded from AMI-C's web site at www.ami-c.org :
AMI-C Release 2 Architectural Overview: Describes the structure (logical components and interconnections), functionality (features and functions) and applications associated with AMI-C's standardized interfaces.
AMI-C System Requirements: Defines system-level requirements and expected functional and physical capabilities associated with AMI-C's standardized interfaces.
AMI-C Vehicle Interface Requirements: Defines the services that are provided by the AMI-C Vehicle Interface. These services are grouped into four categories: vehicle services, power management services, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) services, and audio services.
AMI-C Use Cases: Provides a variety of examples of customer experiences that could be enabled, in terms of in-vehicle, multimedia functions and features, by implementing AMI-C standardized interfaces.
Between now and April, more AMI-C Release 2 specifications will be published as legal and technical reviews are completed. These documents provide enabling design specifications, embedded proof-of-concept reference platforms, host platforms, user guidelines, recommendations, and reference documents for mobile information and entertainment systems.
