Warren Johnson's Pursuit of a Second Straight Win Will Start From the Second Position in Phoenix.

Sugar Hill, Ga., February 22, 2003 - For the fifth time in his Pro Stock career, Warren Johnson will start final eliminations at the Phoenix NHRA event from the second position. After his GM Performance Parts Grand Am set the pace on Friday afternoon with an impressive 6.835-second, 201.97 mph run, WJ spent Saturday working on the set-up. Although tire shake cut short his third attempt and allowed Bruce Allen to edge him for the top spot by four thousandths of a second, Johnson came back in the final qualifying session to record a solid 6.869-second elapsed time with a top speed of 201.67 mph

"On the first run, we were going for the throat, but the track wouldn't hold it, and it shook in second gear. We then calmed it down for this afternoon's session, but went a little too far. Having set the outer parameters, we've found the range we need to work in. We'll make some changes to our GM Performance Parts Grand Am to fine-tune it and have it ready for the first round tomorrow. We'll be fine."
