MSD Named "Official Ignition System" of the
Trans-Am Series
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ‹ MSD Ignition has been named the ³Official Ignition
System² of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup. As part of the
agreement, MSD will supply the spec ignition systems required by this year¹s
Trans-Am Series rules.
MSD had been a Series contingency and award sponsor in previous years, but
in 2003 it has stepped up its involvement with America¹s longest
continiously running road racing series.
³MSD has been involved with the Trans-Am Series for a long time,² said MSD
National Sales Manager Russell Stephens. ³It¹s a great racing program. We¹re
happy to be the official ignition system and to provide the ignition to all
of the cars out there. MSD is the ignition of choice for motorsports.
³When people see the MSD on the race car they want to buy it for their
street car,² added Stephens. ³People that have performance and muscle cars
make up our biggest market. Those are the people that pay attention to
motorsports. That¹s why being involved in the Trans-Am Series is so
important.²
This year MSD will provide spec, sealed ignition systems‹which include all
necessary ignition parts such as coils and rev limiters‹to competitors. The
ignition systems will be distributed during pre-race inspection by a blind
draw.
MSD Ignition operates out of an 84,000-square-foot building with more than
400 employees, including an excellent core of highly trained engineers,
technicians, assembly specialists and a host of performance enthusiasts.
Together, that team designs, develops, tests and manufactures the entire
line of MSD products including ignition controls, coils, timing accessories
and spark plug wires and accessories.
The Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup features closed-fendered,
production-based, V-8-powered sports cars. The Trans-Am Series celebrates
its 38th anniversary in 2003.
