BMW WilliamsF1 Team - Valencia Test Summary
VALENCIA TEST -- 10th-14th February 2003
Summary:
After the debuting of the FW25 at Barcelona last week, the BMW WilliamsF1
Team started in earnest with the refinement programme of the new car in
Valencia.
While many major components such as the drivetrain had been extensively
bench-tested and track-tested using 2002 chassis, the opening test in Spain
was
intended to assess some very basic parameters of the new car before
commencing a more specific testing programme in Valencia.
The WilliamsF1 BMW FW25 showed strong promise during the week by setting
one of the fastest ever recorded laps at the Valencia Circuit with Juan
Pablo
Montoya at the wheel. Both drivers have reported extremely favourable
impressions of the new car, and the team in general is pleased with early
progress.
Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1):
"We finished at Valencia today and now we move to Barcelona for a further
test
next week. We have had a productive week testing with some good
improvements to the aerodynamics, we also did some endurance running for
reliability checks on the new car. We also did tyre testing for Michelin."
Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director):
"From the BMW point of view the Valencia test was successful. We have had no
technical problems with the engine and were able to concentrate on the
engine
set-up. Apart from this we were supporting test work on the chassis and tyre
development."
* The BMW WilliamsF1 Team will be testing again next week at the Circuit de
Catalunya,
