Universal Automotive Industries, Inc. Receives 'BEEP' Certification from The Brake Manufacturers Council

ALSIP, Ill., Feb. 12 -- Universal Automotive Industries, Inc. announced today
that it has received BEEP Certification from the Brake Manufacturers Council
(BMC).
According to the BMC, the Brake Effectiveness Evaluation Procedure (BEEP)
is the newest industry accepted guidelines for brake pad and shoe performance,
assuring consistency with critical OE braking requirements.
Arvin Scott, President of Universal, says, "We are pleased that the BMC,
whose members represent the world's leading friction material companies,
initiated the BEEP test procedure for automotive aftermarket brake materials."
"BEEP certified products are sold under the Ultimate brand and for private
label. With the introduction of the BEEP test procedure and the BEEP seal of
approval for companies and products, professional installers and consumers can
purchase a product that has been safety and performance tested and certified
by an independent third party," said Scott.
BEEP utilizes the SAE J2430 test, a single-ended inertia dynamometer test
reviewed and endorsed by the brake industry and supported by almost 1,000
dynamometer tests and 50 fully instrumented vehicle tests. The SAE J2430
correlates dynamometer brake testing to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration's (NHTSA) regulations - Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
(FMVSS) vehicle performance tests.
"BEEP is the culmination of a decade-long effort by BMC with the guideline
objective that aftermarket brake materials meet the same performance levels as
those required for new vehicles," said BMC Chairman Peter Morse.
According to Walter Britland, Director of Aftermarket Engineering for
Federal-Mogul Corp and BEEP Chairman, "BEEP is the culmination of more than
10 years of hard work and collaboration between numerous brake manufacturers
and a SAE taskforce, which aimed to develop a comprehensive procedure for
friction performance to be evaluated in a viable manner."
BEEP-certified products will be identified by a seal, which is now being
placed on packaging and other appropriate literature and marketing materials.
Scott stated, "Brake products displaying the BEEP seal will set the standard
for quality and customer expectations in the automotive aftermarket. Our BEEP
Certification is a clear and meaningful affirmation of our commitment to
engineer and manufacture premium brake friction products."
Established in 1973, the BMC is dedicated to providing and maintaining,
for the mutual benefit of all its members, communications as appropriate with
federal, state and local governmental authorities, bodies and agencies.
Universal, headquartered in the Chicago area, specializes in the
manufacture and distribution of brake pads, brake shoes, drums, rotors,
hydraulics and other components and features an extensive branded program
under its trademarks "UBP-Universal Brake Parts" and "Ultimate".
