Strong 3-car Kiwi team for London-Sydney Marathon

London, February 12 --

  • But the cars are a mystery

Joe McAndrew, two-times New Zealand rally champion and outright winner of last year's Midnight Sun to Red Sea Rally, has put together a strong 3-car team for the 30-day London-Sydney Marathon in June 2004.

Last year McAndrew won the 20-day, 10-country Midnight Sun event in a GpN Honda Integra with fellow Kiwi Murray Cole co-driving.

"That taught us a lot about marathon rallying and I think we'll start London-Sydney with a good idea of what's needed to get a podium place," said Joe.

Joe named his team today as himself and Murray, Wellington businessman Colin Taylor in the second car and Gary Smith in the third.

Smith did the 1993 London-Sydney and finished a strong fifth in a Ford Escort.

But Joe is coy about naming which cars he'll be running. "They will be modern GpN cars, could be Hondas, could be Toyotas. Right now we are in the middle of evaluating those two makes and one other."

So expect a strong and well experienced Kiwi team in three identical ... errr... cars.
