"Change of Date"    The following is an update F.Y.I., per your request.  Thank you for your interest.

Please Note:  An "Order from the Court of Appeals" changing the date of oral arguments (regarding the jurisdiction of the case) has been issued.  The date has been changed from Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 to Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at 9:00 a.m.
    The 4th District Court of Appeals has agreed to hear a petition for a writ of mandate filed by the Michael Goodwin defense in their attempt to reverse the judge's decision regarding Orange County's jurisdiction over the trial.  The defense would like to get the case dismissed or moved to Los Angeles County.
    The actual trial for the Thompson murders has been postponed several times by request of the defense.  The latest trial date, which was scheduled to begin April 7, 2003, has now been stayed until after the ruling from the Appellate Court.  That could be two months or more following the Feb. 19, 2003 hearing.    
    The defendant, Michael F. Goodwin, remains in jail on a "no bail" status.  He is charged with two counts of first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, along with three special circumstance charges:  Lying in wait, murder for financial gain and multiple homicides.  There is still a one-million dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of all those involved in the killings.

Michael Goodwin and former wife, Diane Sidel Goodwin, convicted of 13 counts of conspiracy and lying to banks, sentenced to 30 months, Federal Prison, July 8, 1996.  (Santa Ana Criminal, year 1993, case #67, defendant "1", Federal Court.)

Thompson Murder Case:
Michael F. Goodwin was arrested Dec. 13, 2001 for the double homicide of auto racing legend Mickey Thompson, 59, and his wife Trudy, 41.  The couple was shot to death in the driveway of their Bradbury, CA home at 6:05 a.m., the morning of March 16, 1988 as they were leaving for work.
