Air Products Hydrogen Fueling Technologies on Display as the President Promotes New Hydrogen Initiative Program
Washington, D.C. Event Encourages Adoption of White House Hydrogen Energy Directives WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 -- Air Products , the world's largest supplier of merchant hydrogen, said Thursday that its hydrogen fueling technologies were part of the focus at a White House sponsored exhibit here today in support of President George W. Bush's New Hydrogen Initiative Program. Air Products was one of approximately 20 companies that provided technology exhibits at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., where President Bush spoke to various U.S. industry officials and an audience about the future of hydrogen fuel cell technology in America's energy future. "Hydrogen as an energy-carrier is available now. There are demonstration projects where Air Products' hydrogen is fueling automobiles today, and hydrogen is being used to create electrical energy. We are excited about the President's hydrogen initiative. We readily accept the challenges and we are honored to be part of today's event," said Arthur T. Katsaros, Air Products' Group Vice President. In his remarks, President Bush said, "We're on the cutting edge of change that is going to dramatically change this country for the better. It is exciting to see the products you are producing." During a Presidential tour of selected industries at the Museum, Katsaros presented Air Products' hydrogen technologies. Air Products is a global leader in hydrogen production and distribution and an industry leader in hydrogen safety engineering. The company has been in the forefront of developing hydrogen fueling stations for clean transportation applications, and the technologies and systems for hydrogen purification, generation and handling. Air Products has taken a leading role as a participant in 16 hydrogen energy demonstration projects in the U.S. and Europe to bring low-cost distributed hydrogen production technologies to the marketplace, and to promote the development of hydrogen energy applications. Recently, in November 2002, Air Products and the United States Department of Energy (DOE) dedicated the world's first hydrogen energy station featuring the co-production of hydrogen fuel and electric power. The energy station generates hydrogen on-site, for both fueling vehicles and producing electricity. In December 2002, Air Products introduced a new hydrogen fueling system that can be relocated to meet the changing needs of customers including automobile manufacturers and developers of other hydrogen fuel cell technologies.
