Ukraine's Eurocar To Assemble Audis In 2003
MOSCOW February 6, 2003; Dow Jones is reporting that Ukraine's ZAO Eurocar, an automotive company which assembles Skoda Automobilova models, will start assembling Audi A.G. A4 and A6 models in 2003, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
Ukrainian Audis will be 4% to 5% cheaper than those made in Germany and potentially can be exported to nearby Hungary, Slovakia and Russia, she said.
"We are now working on the technical side of the assembly lines and on the licenses and other paperwork," Eurocar's spokeswoman Oksana Tavolzhan said.
She added that the launch date isn't known, but it would definitely take place in 2003.
The plant currently has capacity to produce 8,000 Skoda cars and extra capacity to produce 45,000 Audi cars a year is being constructed.
Both Skoda and Audi are units of Volkswagen A.G.
