U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham to Unveil President's Hydrogen Economy Plan at Detroit Economic Club's February 7 Meeting



    DETROIT, Feb. 5 -- The Detroit Economic Club (DEC) announced
U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham will be the speaker at its
February 7, 2003 meeting.  Detroit Economic Club President Beth Chappell made
the announcement today.  Secretary Abraham will unveil the details of
President Bush's Energy plan.  The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a
member reception.  The meeting will take place at Cobo Center, located at One
Washington Boulevard.
    "We're honored that Secretary Abraham has chosen to unveil the details of
this critical energy plan at the Detroit Economic Club.  Being in the
automotive capital of the world, we're anxious to hear the details," said
Chappell.
    Abraham will discuss the Administration's major investment in building the
hydrogen economy from infrastructure investments to ongoing hydrogen research.
He will discuss the government's role in collaborating with the automotive
sector on research and technology efforts to build a hydrogen economy.
    "I'm honored to return to the Economic Club to outline the
Administration's new hydrogen initiative.  We have made a substantial
commitment to working with private industry to advance the country's use of
hydrogen, especially in collaboration with the automotive industry, and I look
forward to discussing this program with the members of the Economic Club in
the Motor City."
    The DEC meeting is open by registration to members and their guests.  The
