BMW Group Begins Year With Record Month
January Sales Soar 24.5 Percent
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Feb. 4 -- The BMW Group (BMW and MINI
brands combined) reported record sales as demand for BMW Group vehicles in
2003 climbed. The company reported its strongest January on record, with
19,823 vehicles, up 24.5 percent over the 15,923 sold in the first month of
2002.
BMW Brand Also Sets January Record
BMW of North America, LLC reported its strongest January ever with sales
of 17,005 automobiles and Sports Activity Vehicles, up 6.8 percent over the
15,923 vehicles sold in the same period last year.
BMW Automobile Sales
BMW reported sales of 14,311 compared to the 12,778 cars sold in January
2002, an increase of 12 percent.
Two of the newest models led the way. Sales of the new Z4 roadster,
introduced in late October, accounted for a 273 percent gain over Z3 sales in
January 2002 and sales of the new 7 Series continued at a strong pace,
recording a 15.3 percent gain over January a year ago.
BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
January 2003 sales of BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicles were down by
14.3 percent, to 2,694 vehicles vs. the 3,145 reported in 2002.
BMW Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales
Sales of BMW CPO vehicles took off in the first month of 2003, as the
company reported 5,052 vehicles in January, an increase of 40.4 percent above
the 3,598 vehicles sold last year.
MINI Brand
MINI Automobiles
Demand for the MINI brand, which went on sale March 22, continued with
strong sales. The division reported sales of 1,499 MINI Cooper and 1,319 MINI
Cooper S models.
