Kruse Batmobile Headed for Auction Block
February 3, 2003
Auburn, IN-One of the world's most famous and recognizable vehicles is heading to the auction block. Dean Kruse, founder and CEO of Kruse International, has announced that his Batmobile will be made available for sale at the Atlantic City Classic Car Event.
The 1989 Batmobile, which was used in the movie "Batman Returns," was purchased by Kruse in 1998. A similar model sold at auction in 2001 for $235,000.
"I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of owning the Batmobile. I've used it for charity events and other functions, and no matter where you take it, it's always the highlight of the event. It's instantly recognizable, and it's always been fun for me to watch the reaction it gets from adults and children alike," said Kruse.
Prior to Kruse purchasing the vehicle, it was used in television commercials for OnStar personal automotive assistance. It measures 19ft 6in long and 8ft in width and has a body made of fiberglass. It is fully functional and drivable, but is not intended for street use.
"It'll be hard to part with a car that is so unique and has played such a large part in pop culture, but it's time to let someone else get some enjoyment out of it," Kruse said.
There are some restrictions to buying the vehicle. Because the Batmobile is a promotional vehicle from the Warner Bros. movie "Batman Returns" it is for display and limited driving only. While it is available for purchase, certain restrictions and contract requirements are in effect with buyer approval from Warner Bros. For approval package, call Becky at (260) 925-5600. Batman and all related elements are the property of DC Comics. Copyright DC Comics, 2002. Kruse stated that in his five years of owning the Batmobile, Warner Bros. have been excellent to work with.
The Atlantic City Classic Car event will be held February 20-23, 2003 at the new one million square foot Atlantic City Convention Center, and is America's largest indoor classic car event.
