ADP Launches Wireless Local Area Network Solutions to Auto Dealerships
CHICAGO--Feb. 1, 2003--ADP Dealer Services announced the introduction of Wireless Local Area Network (LAN) solutions to auto dealerships today. As a leading provider of networking technology to the automotive retail industry, wireless technology solutions are not new to ADP. Satisfied customers have been using ADP's PartScan(TM) bar code technology with wireless scanners for years. "As a parts manager, my employees need tools that can move with them and still be secure, effective and easy to use. ADP's wireless solution has allowed me to do just that for more than five years." Says Tom Finley, Bachman Parts Division, Louisville, Ky.ADP's expanded wireless solution now includes Wireless LAN technology which enables automotive retailers to bring the power of customer and vehicle information to the showroom floor or service area quickly and easily. "Wireless networks will allow dealerships to increase their employee and dealership productivity," said Joe Bihner, ADP's vice president of network solutions. "Wireless LAN systems can provide users with access to real-time information anywhere in their organization. This mobility supports productivity and service opportunities not possible with wired networks."
A wireless Local Area Network (LAN) is a network of computers spanning a relatively small area, such as a single building or a group of buildings using radio waves. An advantage of a Wireless LAN is that there are no cables to run or trenches to dig resulting in reduced installation time and expense. Dealerships can now transmit data in a fraction of the time that is required to install a wired connection.
"Wireless saved us more than one-third the cost of connecting buildings in several dealerships to the network," said Louis Gomez, system administrator for Rick Case Automotive Group. "Working with ADP we were able to avoid the cost and delay of tearing up the dealership lot to install fiber. We are very satisfied with the performance of the ADP Wireless solution and the service and support provided by ADP.
"In addition to the mobility and ease of installation, wireless networks allow for reduced cost of ownership and scalability to grow with the dealership," said Jerry McDonald, ADP product director. "Wireless technology allows the network to go where wire cannot go and lets dealers configure and extend their network to every inch of their dealership."
