Shell to Give Lucky Hawaii Resident $10,000 in Free Gas; Shell Celebrates 75 Years in Hawaii



    HONOLULU, Jan. 31 -- Where would you go if you had $10,000 in
free gas?  On Saturday, February 1, 2003, one lucky Shell customer will face
that very question when 10 finalists from a Shell Oil Products US sweepstakes
in Hawaii gather at a local Shell station for the opportunity to WIN $10,000
IN FREE GAS.  Each finalist will draw a Shell prepaid gas card, one of which
will be worth $10,000.  Shell is hosting the sweepstakes to celebrate
75 successful years of business in Hawaii.

     WHO:      Shell employees & 10 finalists (nine from Hawaii and one from
               Calif.)

     WHAT:     WINNER RECEIVES $10,000 IN FREE GAS
               Other nine contestants will receive a runner-up prize of
               $100 in free gas

    In preparation for its 75th anniversary in Hawaii, Shell updated stations
throughout the state to a modern design that is welcoming to consumers.  The
enhanced retail image is also part of a national brand conversion effort
launched in May 2002.  Shell will convert the majority of its 13,000 Texaco-
branded service stations across the U.S. to the Shell brand by June 2004 as
part of the largest re-branding initiative in American business history.
