GM BuyPower Had A Berry Berry Good Year
FOR RELEASE: January 31, 2003 GM BuyPower Helps Dealers Sell 200,000 GM Vehicles in 2002
DETROIT - General Motors sold more vehicles than any other manufacturer in 2002, results that were bolstered by a record-setting performance from GM's online shopping and buying service, GM BuyPower.
GM BuyPower sent more than 1 million sales leads to GM dealers last year, an increase of more than 140% over 2001, according to GM data. GM tracking shows GM dealers sold more than 200,000 cars and trucks in 2002 to online consumers who used the service to initiate purchase inquiries with their respective dealer of choice. In addition, the GMBuyPower.com Web site also averaged more than 1.5 million visits and more than 4.8 million dealer inventory searches per month.
"We are working hard to ensure that our customers always have a great experience when they are considering a GM car or truck, whether they're using their personal computers to shop virtually from home or actually visiting a dealership to take a test drive," said Katherine J. Benoit, executive director of General Motors Customer Network.
Benoit noted that in 2002 GM BuyPower also continued to deliver the highest sales lead closing ratio of any manufacturer or third-party lead provider, according to J.D. Power and Associates' Dealer Satisfaction with Online Buying Services Study. In addition, consumers rated the GM BuyPower.com Web site more useful than other Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) sites, according to the 2002 J.D. Power and Associates New Autoshopper.com Study.
GM BuyPower is the industry's most comprehensive buying service with more than 5,200 participating GM dealers and more than 750,000 new and GM Certified Used Vehicles available online. Consumers can configure their vehicle, find it in dealer's inventory, access finance tools and applicable incentives, and send electronic messages to the dealer of their choice for a price quote. The service was launched in March 1999.
