Last night, viewers watched as 24 exceptional men and women, chosen from the original 50 athletes during the January 13 episode, were challenged in various physical activities in the Elk Mountains, Colorado Selection Camp, including overnight back country ski traversing, uphill foot-racing and mountaineer skill training. The athletes were striving to be one of the 12, chosen by the OLN panel of experts, to participate in the first leg of the Global Extremes international challenges in Kalahari. The 12 athletes chosen for the Kalahari adventures were: Andy Corra of Durango, Colo.; Jan "Honza" Fiala of Corrales, N.M.; Sam Gehring of Cardiff, Calif.; Jesse Haynes of Phillips, Wis.; Troy Henkels of Eagle River, Alaska; Colleen Ihnken of Alma, Colo.; Eric Kapitulik of Annapolis, Md.; Ted Mahon of Aspen, Colo.; Petit Pinson of Coronado, Calif.; Jesse Rickert of Gunnison, Colo.; Darran Wells of Lander Wyo.; and Trynt Young of Encinitas, Calif. In Costa Rica, Central America, the 11 remaining participants will be faced with handling the dense jungles and diverse environment as they challenge themselves in a variety of sports, including mountain biking, jungle trekking, rope courses and sea kayaking, while learning conservation along the way. The remaining nine participants will move onto one of the harshest climates on Earth, Iceland, where they will pioneer a route among the frozen mountain passes and valleys of the Icelandic Ice Caps. The final phase for the five athletes chosen for the Summit Team will prove to be the ultimate adventure thrill -- a chance to climb Mt. Everest, the world's highest pinnacle.
