Water Utility Company Uses GPS Vehicle Tracking System To Help Manage Truck Fleet

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 28 -- Radio Satellite Integrators, Inc. (RSI), a global provider of customized
GPS-based vehicle tracking and mobile data solutions, today announced the
completion of an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system for the Erie County
Water Authority (ECWA) in Erie County, New York.
The ECWA is responsible for the upkeep and supply of water to 640,000
residents in the greater Buffalo, NY area. The AVL system was procured
through a public request for proposal process and the RSI system was selected
as the best value for the ECWA.
Using the RSI AVL system and Kenwood two-way radios, the ECWA is able to
track and monitor its vehicle fleet for a variety of dispatching, supervisory,
and security uses. Viewed on RSI's GIS mapping software, ECWA administration
can see detailed real-time and archived location data for the fleet. Included
in the water utility's fleet are technician, supervisor, meter reader,
emergency, and other operations vehicles. With the system in place, ECWA can
now instantly see on computerized maps where each vehicle is or has been in a
matter of seconds.
"It is crucial for the providers of critical utilities such as water to
operate with the utmost efficiency," states RSI president Jonathan Michels,
"With our system as a powerful tool, ECWA operations will be able to better
manage their mobile workforce and help keep things flowing."
