TOKYO, Jan 28, 2003; Reuters reported that Japan's domestic vehicle production
rose 12.9 percent in December from a year earlier to 824,423
vehicles, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said on
Tuesday.
For 2002, output grew 4.9 percent to 10,257,690 vehicles.
Production of passenger cars rose for the first time in two
years, while truck output fell for the eighth straight year.
Following is a breakdown of domestic production figures for
December and 2002, with percentage changes from a year earlier:

*Minivehicles have maximum engine displacement of 660cc and
receive preferential tax treatment. Suzuki, Daihatsu, Honda, Fuji
Heavy and Mitsubishi produce 660cc minivehicles. Mazda and Nissan
sell Suzuki-made minicars for sale under their own nameplates.
