BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems Awarded New Nissan Business
MARSHALL, Mich., Jan. 23 -- The Thermal Systems business (formally Cooling Systems) of BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems will provide a new viscous fan drive and polymer fan system for Nissan's new I-4 engine beginning in March of 2005. The I-4 engine will be on two Nissan light vehicle models. The fan drive and fan will be manufactured at the BorgWarner Fletcher, North Carolina manufacturing facility. "It is a great pleasure that we make this announcement, as this will be our first domestic application with Nissan. The Nissan business was globally bid and was earned with a new highly engineered modulating fan and drive synergistic system," said Larry Schmida, North American Automotive Sales and Engineering Director for the Thermal Systems portion of the business. The air-sensing viscous fan drive and fan system reacts with a vehicle's cooling system to control the fan's speed in relation to airflow requirements, resulting in smooth transitional fan speed that enhances engine performance, reduces fan noise and improves fuel economy. BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems, part of the BorgWarner Engine Group, is a global provider of engine cooling solutions. The business manufactures and markets air sensing and coolant sensing fan drives that can be mechanically or electronically controlled and also manufactures and markets polymer fan blades and air control shutters for engine cooling systems. BorgWarner Inc. is a product leader in highly engineered components and systems for vehicle powertrain applications worldwide. The company operates manufacturing and technical facilities in 50 locations in 14 countries.
