Detroit Diesel Corporation Names Carsten Reinhardt as Chief Executive Officer

DETROIT, Jan. 22 Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) today
announced the appointment of Carsten Reinhardt as Chief Executive Officer,
effective April 1, 2003. Reinhardt will join DDC from DaimlerChrysler's
Freightliner LLC business unit, where he is currently General Manager of the
company's Portland, Oregon, Truck Manufacturing Plant. Reinhardt also
recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Operations for
Freightliner LLC subsidiary Western Star Trucks from May 2001 to September
2002. Reinhardt will relocate to the Detroit area.
In his new post, Reinhardt will report to Dr. Gerald Weber,
DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice President and head of the Powersystems Business
Unit. Jim Morrow will continue as DDC President and head of operations and
sales, reporting to Reinhardt.
Carsten Reinhardt's broad experience in the North American commercial
vehicle industry, coupled with Jim Morrow's extensive on-highway experience at
DDC, puts the company in an excellent position to maintain its leadership
role, according to Dr. Weber.
Reinhardt, 35, joined DaimlerChrysler (then Daimler-Benz) in 1993 as a
manufacturing engineer for Mercedes-Benz AG in Stuttgart, Germany. He moved
to the Freightliner organization in 1994 as a project engineer at the
company's Portland corporate headquarters. In 1996, he was appointed Manager
of Industrial Engineering for Freightliner and in 1998 was promoted to
Director of Manufacturing Engineering, a post he held until his appointment
with Western Star Trucks.
A native of Germany, Reinhardt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in
Mechanical Engineering from Esslingen Technical University in Germany and a
Master of Science degree in Automotive Engineering from the University of
Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. He is married with two children.
