Cummins Westport receives orders for 62 low-emissions bus engines for Asia

    VANCOUVER, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Cummins Westport Inc., a
joint venture of Cummins Inc. of Columbus, Indiana, and Westport
Innovations Inc. of Vancouver, B.C., announced today that it has
received orders for a total of 62 low-emissions natural gas engines for
transit service in three cities in Asia.
These orders include both B5.9G-230 horsepower engines and C Gas Plus
engines. They represent new market areas for Cummins Westport and follow a
previously disclosed order in December for 10 B5.9G engines for the City of
Xining, capital of Qinghai Province. All of the engines will be delivered by
March 2003.
Cummins Westport's largest customer in Asia remains Beijing, which has
approximately 2,000 B5.9G engines in transit bus service. The five Asian
cities that have purchased Cummins Westport natural gas engines operate a
combined total of more than 35,000 transit buses.
"The transit buses in these five cities alone are equivalent to nearly
half the entire U.S. transit fleet," says Cummins Westport President Hugh
Foden. "With other cities outside of Beijing ordering Cummins Westport
engines, our presence across Asia is growing stronger and our geographic
diversification efforts are beginning to pay off in sales."

Cummins Inc. is a global power leader in engines, electrical power
generation systems and related technologies. Westport Innovations is the
leading developer of natural gas fuel systems for diesel engines. Cummins
Westport Inc., formed in 2001, develops and markets low-emissions alternative
fuel vehicle engines manufactured by Cummins.
